STILLNESS

Prayer is so simple.

It is like quietly opening a door

and slipping into the very presence of God

There in the stillness

to listen for his voice.

Perhaps to petition

or only to listen.

It matters not;

just to be there,

in his presence

is prayer.

I pray for the gift of love;

for if I have not love, I am nothing.

Teach me, in love, to be patient and kind, not envious, boastful or conceited.

Never let me be rude, selfish or quick to take offence;

may I keep no score of wrongs.

Never let me take pleasure in the sins of others;

may I take delight in the truth.

For then there will be nothing my love cannot face,

no limit to its faith, its hope, its endurance.

My love will never end.
